Schedules are hectic these days. When you are engaged you
have to squeeze wedding planning into your already busy schedule. You have work
obligations. You might be going to college. You might have kids and have to
juggle their schedules. You might be house hunting. Yet somehow you have to fit in wedding
planning, venue hunting, gown shopping, and finalize 5000 wedding details before
your big day. The to-do list can get overwhelming. With all the plans that you
are making for your big day, there is one common thread……you are planning YOUR
wedding and every decision you make is a reflection of YOUR taste, YOUR style,
and YOUR vision.
We have seen a recent trend here at The Dress. A lot of
moms, sisters, grandmothers, and soon-to-be in-laws, with the best of
intentions, stop in to “scope out” the gowns for the bride. It’s a “preliminary
search”. They are “seeing what’s out there”.
Hmmmmmm.
Remember, your wedding is about YOU……your style, taste,
and ideas. While some “scopers” have an
“idea” of what you want, half the time they don’t know your size. They might
not REALLY know your taste. They probably don’t know your budget. They are by
themselves, looking at gowns hanging in bags rather than on your body. And, honestly, they probably have a different
style esthetic than you do. They might LOVE a gown that you would hate.
Or, what’s more common, they would pass over a gown that YOU might LOVE.
Bottom line: YOU are the most important decision maker in
this wedding-planning process. YOU have to taste the caterer’s food. YOU have
to like the photographer’s work. And YOU have to shop for your own wedding gown.
Don’t let their “preliminary search” report influence your decision to see for yourself.
