Can I take a picture?

Once you start shopping for your perfect wedding gown, you may feel overwhelmed with the vast selection of gowns that are out there. There are countless gown styles, designers, and price points. Not only is there an enormous number of bridal stores within a one hour shopping radius, but there is also an online market as well as custom made gowns. It's easy to get overwhelmed.

You may notice some bridal stores have the rule of "No Photography Allowed". Every bridal store has their own reasons why photography is not allowed. While we do allow pictures to be taken here at The Dress, we try to sway girls away from taking out their camera. Our #1 reason why: poor photo quality.

Now, we are not trying to insult anyone's personal photography skills. Most small cameras just don't capture the amazing detail of the gown. ESPECIALLY cell phone pictures. They usually come out grainy and you lose most of the gown detail. Also, keep in mind that the gown is not yet altered to fit your body perfectly, your hair is not swept up in "bridal hair", you don't have accessories, and have I mentioned the lighting? So, 99% of the time you will look at the photo and say, "Oh....well....do I look like that?" No!! Then, when you send the photo of the gown that you love to your friend or out-of-town relative, their reaction will probably be less enthused than you were hoping for, which will probably sway your decision.

We tell our brides to remember what the gown looks like in person. Do not rely on cell phone photos to help you make your decision. We promise that, with the right alterations and accessories, you will look beautiful on your wedding day. And your professional photographer will capture stunning images of you and your beautiful gown.

Just a side note: There are a number of brilliant wedding photographers here in South Carolina. When my husband and I got married in 2006, we used Gene Ho Photography. Gene Ho and Stephen Pacello came and shot our wedding. GORGEOUS pictures. Check out his site: www.geneho.com
