Misconceptions of a "Used" Wedding Gown

Consignment. One little word can conjure up many different opinions.  Especially when it comes to bridal. Many brides hear the word “consignment” and automatically think “Well, I don’t want to buy a used dress….” Oh girls……. Come on in and take a look. You may be surprised at what you find!  We have three kinds of wedding gowns here at The Dress:

SAMPLE GOWNS:

Alvina Valenta 9756 Sample Gown, size 6, currently in store

Alvina Valenta. Maggie Sottero. Pronovias. Watters… just to name a few… We work with a variety of bridal salons and receive a selection of their inventory from the past few seasons, so they can make room for new sample gowns. These gowns are beautiful and in amazing condition. No need to wait for that “semi-annual sample sale”. Our store has a “Sample Sale” all year round! All sample gowns are always at least 30% off retail.

NEVER-WORN GOWNS:

Can you say “Two wedding dresses?” I have heard so many stories that I could write a book…  Many brides buy a dress, only to continue to shop and then fall in love with gown #2. And perhaps even gown #3. Sometimes a bride will change her location and swap the hotel ballroom reception for an outdoor botanical garden theme. All of a sudden, that crystal encrusted ball gown is no longer appropriate for a breezy outdoor ceremony. What do they do with that first NEVER WORN gown? Consign it, of course!

ONCE-WED GOWNS:

The average bride wears her gown for about 6 hours. That’s it! Most girls take their gown straight to the cleaners after the honeymoon. The vast majority of the time, the dry-cleaners can get out any stains and the gown looks BRAND NEW. Trust us. In the last two years, we have seen some magical dry-cleaning work that allows that gown to be “down-the aisle” ready again.  We are very selective when accepting gowns for our inventory. You won’t find gowns from 1982 here. No shiny satin, big bows, heavily beaded applique, or poofy shoulder pads. Our once-wed gowns are current, in style, and no more than 5 years old.

Purchasing a bridal gown from a bridal consignment store is a FANTASTIC way to get more gown for your money since our prices are discounted 30-50% off retail. Check out our "Featured Gowns" page for just a sampling of what we have in our boutique.
